Introduction to Snake and Spider Envenomations

This class features a PowerPoint presentation, lecture with a live animal and preserved specimen display. The class lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This is a highly valuable class for those that work or may be exposed venomous animals or may potentially have to render to envenomation victims. Suggested groups include field research, utility workers, city employees, first responders, nature center or park personnel, and law enforcement. It Includes:

  • An introduction to the venomous species of the Southeast
  • Information about venom
  • Identifying an envenomation
  • Signs and Symptoms of envenomation
  • Introduction to emergency management of envenomations
  • Live and preserved specimens for observation
  • Question and Answer Session

Introduction to Venomous Snake Handling

This class is offered on a limited basis. The individual or institution is evaluated prior to acceptance of the class.

This class is conducted at the group's facility. This is a highly variable class depending on the group, the experience, and the animals and every effort is made to meet the individual needs. It features:

  • Types of venomous snakes
  • Tools of the trade
  • Detailed handling demonstration and explanations with live venomous snakes
  • Other information or demonstrations that may be necessary
  • Evaluation of handling tactics (if applicable)
